Tip #1: Get clear on what matters most

Whether it’s your strategy, purpose, vision, or something else, what is most important to you? Not urgent because of a deadline, or important because it’s someone else’s priority, what is most important to you?

Tip #2: Ditch the stuff that’s not adding any value or meaning

If it doesn’t align with what matters most, then don’t do it! If you are doing things that aren’t important for you, then it’s time to rethink things.

Tip #3: Create and commit to cycles of activities that will keep your attention on the right stuff

Regularly declutter and ditch the stuff that isn’t serving a purpose. Allocate time in your calendar for the priorities; the rest will find their way, but if you don’t allocate time for what’s important, it will get taken over by the stuff that isn’t. Take care of your energy and wellbeing, this is one of your indicators of how effective you will be. 

Tip #4: Make the best use of tools to aid your efficiency and effectiveness

Trello, Google Calendar and a good old note book are my favourites. Whatever you choose, make sure they work for you not the other way around.

Tip #5: Get clear and confident with ‘no’

Having the clarity of what your nos are, and the confidence to use them, are your allies in keeping the struggle and overwhelm at bay. They are also some of the most difficult to employ. Start with being mindful of where you’re saying yes when it should be a no. Then practise.

Tip #6: Mind the traps

Watch out for the mindtraps, the stories and rules that you tell yourself and which distract you from what’s most important.

Tip #7: Slow down

Don’t fill your diary with stuff. Leave space for mind wandering. Prioritise your wellbeing.
